Early Music Review Based in Brussels, Il Fondamento is Belgium's premier early music ensemble specializing in historical performance practice playing on period instruments. The core ensemble consisting of the finest musicians in the field was founded by oboist Paul Dombrecht in 1989. He is widely recognized for his interpretations for the familiar Baroque works and for unpublished compositions by the great and lesser known composers he has researched and discovered. Il Fondamento has premiered these neglected works anew since they were first published.
In 2006 alone, the ensemble has toured extensively in Belgium, France, Spain, Estonia, Poland and the Czech Republic. Il Fondamento's trademark has become their innovative concert projects and programs which wander outside the common lanes. The ensemble also has performed and recorded with choirs the larger works by J.S. Bach, such as the St. Matthew's Passion and St. John's Passion, and the well-known Oratorios by Handel. In addition, Il Fondamento has extended its repertoire of lesser established names from later periods such as the most recent CD recording with vocal works by the Basque composer Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga (1806-1826). Paul Dombrecht is not limited to early music, but he reaches into the repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a virtuoso on the modern oboe as well he has collaborated regularly with prominent musicians. He is the Artistic Director and Conductor of Octophoros and Paul Dombrecht Consort. Il Fondamento is supported by the Flemish government. 2007 - please destroy all previous versions | ||
