German-born pianist Andreas Klein established a reputation as a dynamic and compelling performer who is known for his imaginative interpretations and his command of a wide range of tonal colors. "A fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four Ts of pianism" and "A pianist who makes silences sound like music" -New York Times Andreas Klein's career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world's most prestigious venues from London's Wigmore Hall, Berlin's Philharmonic Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. In Europe as well as in the USA, Mexico and Middle East, he has gained critical acclaim for his performances in major cities such as Berlin, Rome, Milan, Bern, Leipzig, Dresden, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, DC, Cleveland, Damascus, and Mexico City. The Tagesspiegel wrote on his performance with the world renowned Berlin Philharmoniker playing Mozart's Concerto KV 459: "humorous flamboyancy and impeccable technique, grace, melodious sound and plenty of brilliance." Other orchestras in Berlin included the Berlin Symphony and Radio orchestras. He premiered and recorded the Mendelssohn Concerto in A minor with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony. The Franck and Liszt concerti with the Halle Orchestra were broadcast nationwide by MDR Radio. Of his performance of the Mozart's Concerto in B flat Major with the Carl Philip Emanuel Bach Chamber Orchestra in Frankfurt, the critics wrote: "Virtuous, but not booming, shining and playful with a singing tone and elegant declamation, the musical melodies of this beautiful concerto evolved." Andreas Klein has enjoyed collaborations with today's finest ensembles. During the Mozart Anniversary year, Andreas Klein toured with the renowned Salzburg Chamber Soloists performing the Mozart Concerto 415 for the opening concert at the festival in Mexico City and Sala Nezahuolkoyotl, and eighteen concerts in the USA including Stanford University, Krannert Center, the Mozart Hall by Boston, Denver's Newman Center, in St. Louis and Palm Beach. The ten-city US tour with the Swiss Lucerne Festival Strings included the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia, Spivey Hall, Atlanta, Wortham Center in Houston, Mechanics Hall near Boston, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The Washington Post wrote, "The virtuosity of these players was on greater display in Mozart's Concerto KV 414 with intelligent soloist Andreas Klein's articulate and flowing pianism which nicely matched the orchestra's sound in this crystalline work." In 2009, he joined the Salzburg Chamber Soloists again on tour with a searching rendition of Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto for strings version. "Klein's interpretative skills, his musicality and technical acumen allowed for a very musical reading that was complemented by the ensemble," wrote Desert News, Salt Lake City. Equally enthusiastic, the review from Duesseldorf: "a superb command of his technique, the loud passages were never aggressive, his tonal colors were limitless, his scales always sparkled. Most gripping and impressive was his huge dynamic range: his control to produce a flawless shading down to a barely audible sound was breathtaking." Most recently, in 2011 he joined Cuarteto Casals, Spain's star string quartet. They performed in major US cities and concert series including Chicago, Washington, DC, and at the prestigious Casals Festival in Costa Rica, performing the Schumann Quintet. "Cuarteto Casals and Klein delivered a memorable rendition, thanks not only to their technical mastery, but also to the musical rapport among the ensemble members and guest pianist." -Palm Beach Daily News During the 2011/12 season, Andreas Klein brought the house down at New York City's hot spot Le Poisson Rouge, with Schumann's Wanderer Fantasy. He received rave reviews at Mexico's International Piano Festival in Monterrey and Torreon: "the audience heard an interpretation of the highest rank in his Wanderer Fantasy. Nothing missed this interpretation which was accomplished with a sincere and noble expressiveness," and as well at the Festival Paiz in Antigua, where he also conducted concerto master classes for a large and attentive audience in Guatemala City. "Maestro Andreas Klein's impeccable execution, his excellent sense of voicing... a rare caliber of musician -Prensa Libre Recent highlights include performances at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, where he received two standing ovations. The Los Angeles recital was streamed live with marvelous responses and the first piano concert at the MIM, the new museum in Phoenix, was filled to capacity. Andreas Klein is a frequent guest on the radio at WGBH Boston, American Public Radio in St. Paul Studio, WFMT Chicago, Cleveland and Houston. He has been the subject of a televized "Musicians Portrait" in Berlin, filmed at the Neuhardenberg Castle, and "Intermezzo with Andreas Klein," a series of short piano works with visuals, was aired by PBS nationwide. His CD releases have received praise by critics, conductors and presenters alike. Of the Berg Sonata, The New York Times raved, "Mr. Klein is an excellent pianist. In Berg's Sonata the voluptuous haze was blown away: one followed the progress of every theme and motive as they steadily transformed themselves into a single architectural design." For the Archives of Deutschland Sender and DS Kultur Radio he recorded works by Busoni, Ginastera and Stravinski. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School and complemented his studies with the legendary Claudio Aarau and Nikita Magaloff. Copies of his Dissertation on the Chopin Etudes are in the libraries of the Chopin Society in Vienna and Leipzig.
